End Time - Prophecies

Is part of Daniel 9:27 referring to a future covenant to be made with 'JUST (?)' the Jews?

Part 1: Focus of Article

The focus of this article is in regards to a future Covenant prophesied within Daniel 9:27, which seems most main stream commentaries offered by Theologians and Scholars alike of eschatology, have interpreted such as a Covenant (or Peace Treaty) that will be made between the end-times antichrist and JUST the Jews.

The focus of this article is to present a deeper investigation on 'who else' the end-times antichrist 'may be' making this future covenant with too in light of some discoveries.

Part 2: English Translations & The Complete Jewish Bible

Exhibit A.

Interesting, the English translation on Daniel 9:27, offered by the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) below.

"He will make a strong covenant with leaders for one week [of years]. For half of the week he will put a stop to the sacrifice and the grain offering. On the wing of detestable things the desolator will come and continue until the already decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator." (Daniel 9:27, cjb)

Exhibit B.

A standard English translation on Daniel 9:27, offered by the New American Standard Bible (NASB) below.

"And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate." (Daniel 9:27, nasb)

NASB Daniel 9:27 by biblegateway.com

NOTE: Neither with the many(nasb) nor with leaders(cjb) is modified. Modified as in, leaders of who? - or - who are the many?

Because neither are modified, and based on the context of Daniel 9:24-27, and what is stated in Isaiah 28:15,18 - I personally feel the main stream Theologians and Scholars alike of eschatology had made the best interpretation (noted in Part 1) that could honestly be made at that time.

Part 3: Discoveries from Root Hebrew Text to final Translation

During my study and research, I discovered from the (nasb) English translated version THE MANY in Isaiah 53:11 , stems from the..

1) same root Hebrew text
2) same Transliteration
3) same Strongs Reference H7227

as Daniel 9:27

Has a..

1) NASB English translation: the many

In short, the many in Isaiah 53:11 is identical in meaning with the many in Daniel 9:27, as the key translated word of focus is many in both of these verses (Daniel 9:27, Isaiah 53:11).

The translation process starts from the root Hebrew Text, to its Transliteration, to its final Translation, and is assigned a Strongs Reference (such as H7227) for research purposes.

Per the Blueletterbible.org web site I've utilized thus far in regards to my focus in Daniel 9:27, no matter the English version I've used, the same results hold true, from root Hebrew text right to the final translation. Reader may verify this in part 6 below. So, let's just continue with the NASB translated version.

Part 4: Isaiah 53:11

"As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities." (Isaiah 53:11, nasb)

The many of Isaiah 53:11 is referring the WHOEVER (WHOSOEVER) of John 3:16.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16, nasb)

Knowing the Whoever of John 3:16 is referring whoever of all the different peoples of humanity who make up the whole wide world who would come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, a gnawing question aroused in my mind.

Q: In light of what I've discovered thus far, how can with the many in Daniel 9:27 be interpreted as the end-times antichrist making a covenant with JUST the Jews, when the many used in Isaiah 53:11 is clearly referring the whoever of John 3:16?

And again, that the key translated word of focus in both the Daniel 9:27 and Isaiah 53:11 verses is the word: many.

Part 5: Examining Daniel 8:25 too below.

"And through his shrewdness He will cause deceit to succeed by his influence; And he will magnify himself in his heart, And he will destroy many while they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of princes, But he will be broken without human agency." (Daniel 8:25, nasb)

1) same root Hebrew Text
2) same Transliteration
3) same Strongs reference H7227

as Daniel 9:27 & Isaiah 53:11

Has a..

1) NASB English translation: many

It's for certain through the shrewdness and deceit of the end-times antichrist, he will destroy many different peoples, for many of these different peoples of the world will sadly buy his lies.

Part 6: Blueletterbible.org - Checking my own Research thus far

Daniel 9:27

Part A: Click on the above URL, find the [C] ='s [Concordance/Lexicon Hebrew] next to the Daniel 9:27 verse, and click on. From there, find Strongs Reference H7227, and then examine its parallel line from Right to Left. From the Right, it first offers the Root Hebrew Text and its Transliteration [rab], then the Strongs Reference H7227, and then the English translation:

***** with the many

Part B: As stated in Part 3, the Reader may verify my statement that no matter the English versions offered by Blueletterbible.org, the same results hold true, from root Hebrew text right to the final translation. Just change the English version at top, and repeat process in Part A.

In verifying my research for yourself, repeat the Part A and B process for both Isaiah 53:11 and Daniel 8:25 linked below.

Isaiah 53:11

***** the many

Daniel 8:25

***** many

Part 7: Commentary by Author and Prophecy Analyst Joel Rosenberg

Author and Bible Teacher Joel Rosenberg posted in his blog on July 2011, a posting that leans in heavy agreement with the translation offered by the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB).

"Bible prophecy suggests the Land will be divided again in the last days. The Hebrew prophet wrote in Daniel 9:26-27 that in the last days “the prince who is to come” (the Antichrist) “will make a firm covenant” (a peace treaty) “with the many” (neighbors of Israel) for seven years, but will then break that treaty after three and a half years. This strongly — though not definitively — suggests a state will be created or reaffirmed through this treaty."

Part 8: Seek a Professional Translator

Aside the commentary offered by Joel Rosenberg on his blog in Part 7, I desired to check my own work in Part 6 with a professional Translator.

I had a dialogue session with a Jeff Benner, Translator of the Ancient Hebrew Research Center (AHRC), Mechanical Translation of the Hebrew Bible in regards to the focus of Daniel 9:27.

About the translator Jeff Benner. Resume/Accomplishments.

In my correspondence with Jeff Benner on the (AHRC) forum site I wrote:

"Daniel 9:24 had already declared who the 70 weeks were decreed to, Daniel and His People, the Jews. God clearly spelling it out there, that the Jews will be involved right to the end of Daniel 9:27. For me personally, it does not make logical sense for the coming antichrist (a coming world Dictator) to make a strong covenant (or a Peace treaty) with JUST the Jewish People, however, obviously including the Jews, context of Daniel 9:24-27. I also want to make sure I am not leaning on my own understanding, and that's why I pry if you don't mind."

Check out my dialogue session with Jeff Benner at the (AHRC) forum.

According to Jeff Benner (Nomad Man) the 'transliteration' of my focus in Daniel 9:27 would be [rabiym], plural. Translated English: [ "Many", the many ].

In regards to my research thus far utilizing the transliteration of [rabiym] instructed by Jeff Benner?

prefix + [rabiym] - Isaiah 53:11

[rabiym] Daniel 8:25

prefix + [rabiym] - Daniel 9:27

All three references above, stem from the same root Hebrew text, same transliteration Jeff Benner instructed. Daniel 8:25 being the only one without a prefix. Prefix and Transliteration [rabiym] exactly the same for bothIsaiah 53:11, and Daniel 9:27. In short, all leaning heavily toward an interpretation of 'with the many', 'the many', 'many' as referring to "Of Different Peoples of the World."

The results therefore being much the same as examined with blueletterbible.org in the focus of this article of investigation in Daniel 9:27.

Part 9: Jack Kinsella of OmegaLetter & of the Hal Lindsey Report

Quoting a piece from Author and Prophecy Analyst Jack Kinsella's commentary on the Coming Prince. He writes..

"The coming prince of Daniel 9:26, the antichrist, kicks off the Tribulation Period – and starts the clock running -- with an event as historically definite as was Artexerxe’s Decree. According to Daniel 9:27, the antichrist ‘confirms a covenant’ between Israel and her enemies. This ‘covenant’, or treaty, is confirmed as an agreement of seven year’s duration. [Not coincidentally, the exact length of the Tribulation Period – Daniel’s 70th Week]."

The above article by Jack Kinsella is currently also featured on Raptureready.com

Like Joel Rosenberg's, Jack Kinsella's Interpretation agrees heavily with that of the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB).

Part 10: Off focus - What could this future Covenant in Daniel 9:27 Entail?

81 % of the Jewish Population of Israel desires to become part of the European Union (E.U.), which Silvio Berlusconi (Italy's PM) has been suggesting to Israel's PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, since 2010.

In order to assure peace, could a part of this coming covenant be that Israel would become part of the European Union?

And if so, would such leave Israel to dwell securely?

Was ancient Israel part of the Old Roman Empire?

Is mankind today heading towards a One World Government, which even Israel would have to become part of?

Part 11: Still Off Focus - Future Wars

In regards to the debated Psalm 83 War, and the debated 'timing' of the Gog of Magog War (Ezekiel 38 & 39), this article of investigation has been prepared only to serve the 'focus on Daniel 9:27'. Parts 1-9 of this article of investigation.

However, in another forum dialogue session, Someone, who also is not comfortable with the main stream interpretation of the future covenant prophesied in Daniel 9:27 as being a covenant made between the end-times antichrist and JUST the Jews, had expressed that perhaps a War is what brings about the end-times antichrist in making a strong covenant with the 'surrounding neighbors' of Israel, or the very threat of a nuclear war.

Part 12: Back on the Focus - My own Conclusion on the Focus of Daniel 9:27

I have decided for myself that the interpretation on this future covenant prophesied within Daniel 9:27, offered by Joel Rosenberg (Part 7), and by Jack Kinsella (Part 9), leans heavily toward a more correct interpretation than the interpretation still offered by the main stream (Part 1). My conclusion including the focus of this article of investigation, Parts 1-9, and in noting the translation offered by the Complete Jewish Bible (CJB).

Please feel free to draw your own conclusion.

God Bless,

Administrator and Student of Bible Prophecy
